Poem 5/7/14

Earth started
slowly with
spasmodic bursts,
too small
to be felt,
but a few people
beneath the remains
swarmed over
the modest mountain.
We emerged complete-
ly vulnerable
from our earth
and flooded
our nearly
forgotten years.

Another erasure poem, this one based on a press release from the U.S. Geological Survey. While they don’t make for “good” poems usually, erasures do exercise the poetic senses, keeping the eye watching for patterns, connections, and leaps.
